Update from Principal - Book Return

13th June 2020

Dear Parents,

As we draw to the end of the school year, we are scaling back the work load for children as we normally would in school.

Last week, we had Sports Week as our major theme of the week and from the many photos we have received, we know that many children really engaged with activities and there were some great local area sports’ days organized. Well done one and all! Have a look at our Gallery page to see the incredible amount of photos we have received throughout the week!

This week, our theme is project week. Each teacher will have some suggestions for their class and there is also a very worthwhile project being run by Kilkenny County Council to make an archive of stories regarding this strange time in our history, which people might like to participate in to ensure Urlingford is represented in that archive!

Our final week is going to be an Art Week. Ms Phelan is co-ordinating with the other teachers to create a trove of resources that you can dip in and out of as we bring the school year to an end! Please do engage and enjoy these two weeks.

RETURN OF BOOKS

We indicated when we distributed the books on May 20th that we would be collecting up school books from the School Book Rental in the coming week. We are planning to do this collection on Wednesday next, June 17th in the school.

We will set up drop off points for each class in the school yard shed. This will allow us to put a one-way system in place with adequate social distancing for everyone. We also are putting in place a timetable for families, based on the eldest child in each family, to ensure we have a steady flow of people during the collection which will allow the social distancing requirements to be easily adhered to.

The following is the timetable for Wednesday:

Families whose ELDEST child is in:      6th Class                                   9.30 am – 10.20 am

                                                            5th Class                                   10.20 am – 11.00 am

                                                            4th Class                                   11.00 am – 11.40 am

                                                            3rd Class & 2nd Class                11.40 am – 12.20 pm

                                                            1st Class, Senior Infants           12.20 pm – 1.00 pm

                                                            & Junior Infants

We would ask people to take the following into account when coming into the school on Wednesday

  • Please enter the school via the main gate.
  • Follow the one-way system that will be clearly marked.
  • Follow the correct social distancing guidelines as people use going shopping. We will have distance markers in place and teachers to guide you around.
  • While children do not need to come in, if your children come with you please stay together in family groups.
  • Please wipe down all books before bringing them into school.
  • Please wear gloves and, if you have them, masks. The staff will do likewise.
  • Please exit the school via the Field end and the Staff Carpark Gate

SCHOOL REPORTS and BOOKLISTS

Teachers are presently finalizing both the Annual School Reports and Booklists for 2020-2021. We plan to have these ready for the end of next week and our plan is to post them together to you on Friday 19th June. Please note that for this year, March 13th is the official end date of school and reports will reflect this reality. However, teachers can also reflect on the great efforts that children put in to our distance learning programmes. We really appreciate the efforts that have been made by all of you in the past three months.

We look forward to seeing many of you on Wednesday. Keep safe everyone.
